About us: 

Waterways Recreation is a youth-focused, Indigenous-led non-profit organization who partners with Indigenous communities, agencies, and partners to deliver canoe programs, which promote wellness and culturally relevant recreation to Indigenous youth across Manitoba. 

Call:

As we approach our second season, we would like to strengthen our board of directors. Currently, we are looking to appoint someone who identifies as a First Nations Woman and shares our passion for supporting community wellness by using canoeing and outdoor recreation to connect Indigenous youth to cultural skills and identities. Previous experience in the non-profit sector, as well as knowledge of fundraising, and canoeing is an asset.  Waterways is committed to ensuring our board of directors reflects the diverse perspectives and realities of Indigenous peoples in Manitoba. This call for a First Nations woman to join our board is just one of many steps that we will be taking to ensure our leadership reflects the communities we serve.

Improved health and wellness for Indigenous youth, empowered and connected to identity, culture, language and land.

Our values at Waterways includes: creating long-term programs which have long-term benefits, fostering strong relationships, supporting the safety and development of Indigenous youth through an emphasis on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellness, centering Indigenous language culture and communities, and mentoring the next generation of leaders.


Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Provide insight and leadership towards our decisions as an organization

  • Commit to ~ 8 board meetings per year

  • Take on tasks based on their ability/expertise
