Waterways Recreation is a youth-focused, Indigenous-led non-profit organization who partners with Indigenous communities, agencies, and partners to deliver canoe programs, which promote wellness and culturally relevant recreation to Indigenous youth across Manitoba.

Communications Coordinator Job Description
(Student/ Under 30 position)
The Communications Coordinator will create content for and manage Waterway’s digital platforms including instagram, facebook, and twitter.
You will collaborate with and report to the Development Director of Waterways to ensure our digital content supports and aligns with strategies, plans, and values.
As well as responsibilities listed below, there may be other administrative tasks which may be asked of the employee. For example, although our website is managed by the Systems Administrator, the Communications Coordinator may be asked to write content for the website from time to time.
Communications Coordinator Responsibilities:
Collect photos and image release forms from Program Leaders and Assistants
Organizing and maintaining photo and content storage on Google Drive
Manages and maintains all Waterways’ social media platforms (website is managed and maintained by systems administrator)
Creates and manages a weekly social media schedule, ensuring all important days, announcements and events are included and planned for appropriately.
Creates, writes and/or edits various materials, including website content, videos, infographics, photos, toolkits, reports, newsletters, annual reports, and brochures.
Supports the Director’s of Waterways in responding to media requests and drafting media releases when required.
Assists with social media and website analytics tracking and reporting where required.
Assists in the development and execution of communication plans.
Maintain an up-to-date media list using the organizations CRM
Communications Coordinator Requirements:
Some university courses in communications, digital design or a related field OR comparable experience.
Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, and Google Drive
Familiarity with social media scheduling and engagement strategy, peak post times, etc.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent writing skills.
Strong people skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines while working remotely.
This is a contract position beginning in June 2023 and ending in September 2023 (possibility for earlier start date for training)
