Waterways Recreation is a youth-focused, Indigenous-led non-profit organization who partners with Indigenous communities, agencies, and partners to deliver canoe programs, which promote wellness and culturally relevant recreation to Indigenous youth across Manitoba.

Programming Assistant Job Description
Programming Leaders/Assistants will develop and run canoe programming with a focus on holistic wellbeing and cultural relevance for participants. Most programs will require travel to and staying in Indigenous communities for overnight stints. Please identify in your cover letter if you are willing to travel.
Programmers will also be responsible to record participant data, and submit it to the Systems Administrator on a regular basis. There will also be opportunities to facilitate community consultation regarding programs. As a Program Assistant, you will be paired with a Program Leader.
Programming Assistant Responsibilities:
Ensure safety of all participants
Develop, plan and execute canoe programming
Record program data and submit in a timely manner
Create and maintain float plans and emergency response plans for all programs
Collect image release forms from participants and submit to communications coordinator
Facilitate community consultations
Programming Assistant Requirements:
Experience working with Indigenous youth, specifically in outdoor environments is desired
Previous canoeing experience and access to a vehicle is an asset but not required
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Successful applicants subject to clear vulnerable sector and child abuse registry check
Must complete Waterways training
This is a contract position beginning in June 2023 and ending in September 2023
Contract full-time at 40 hours per week.
